On March 12th, 2018, following a situation of tension in Pedernales, Dominican Republic, between certain Dominican nationals and certain Haitian nationals, the latter were forced to leave the locality. Hundreds of Haitians quickly flocked to Anse-à-Pitre, a Haitian border town.
In response to a request from the Haitian National Police authorities, from 13 to 16 March 2018, the police component deployed a Senegalese FPU section, an Indian FPU 2 section, two unmanned aerial vehicle teams and four individual police officers to Anse-à-Pitres, for a total of 68 international police officers to support the 25-police security mechanism set up by the Haitian National Police.
At the scene, the international police professionally assisted the Haitian National Police in welcoming the populations and assisted the populations in need, both when they entered Haiti and in the camps temporarily set up to receive them.
