Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack against a joint field mission of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Kibumba, near Goma, North Kivu, by unidentified armed elements. The attack resulted in the killing of three people, including the Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, his bodyguard and a WFP national staff member.

The Secretary-General condemns the complex attack by unidentified armed elements against a temporary operating base of the United Nations Integrated Stabilization Mission for Mali (MINUSMA) in Kerena, Douentza region. The attack, which took place on 10 February, resulted in the wounding of 27 Togolese peacekeepers, and the death of one peacekeeper.     The Secretary-General expresses his deep condolences to the family of the victim, and to the people and Government of Togo. He wishes a full recovery to those injured.

The Secretary-General congratulates the Malian people on the historic meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation (Comité de suivi de l’Accord, CSA) held in Kidal, Mali on 11 February. The high-level meeting, chaired by H.E. Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, Foreign Minister of Algeria, brought together six Malian Ministers, the leadership of the signatory armed movements and the International Mediation, represented at a high level.

The Secretary-General condemns yesterday’s ambush on United Nations peacekeepers in the Central African Republic. Two peacekeepers, from Gabon and Morocco, serving with the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), were killed by alleged Coalition des Patriotes pour le Changement combatants in Bangassou, Mbomou prefecture.

Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about clashes in West Darfur over the weekend.  Escalating inter-communal violence has resulted in scores of deaths and injuries, the displacement of nearly 50,000 people and the destruction of property. He expresses his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Mali     The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack against a convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) that took place on 15 January 2021 near Tessalit in Kidal region, which resulted in the death of an Egyptian peacekeeper and serious injuries to another.
