The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack against a joint field mission of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Kibumba, near Goma, North Kivu, by unidentified armed elements. The attack resulted in the killing of three people, including the Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, his bodyguard and a WFP national staff member.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as to the Governments of Italy and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He further expresses his full solidarity with the WFP colleagues and the entire United Nations team in the country.
The Secretary-General calls on the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to investigate swiftly this heinous targeting of a United Nations joint field mission and to bring the perpetrators to justice. He reaffirms that the United Nations will continue to support the Congolese Government and people in their efforts to bring about peace and stability in the east of the country.

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l’attaque perpétrée aujourd’hui par des éléments armés non identifiés contre une mission de terrain conjointe du Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) à Kibumba, près de Goma dans le Nord-Kivu. L'attaque a fait 3 morts, dont l’Ambassadeur d’Italie en République démocratique du Congo, son garde du corps et un employé national du PAM.
Le Secrétaire général exprime ses plus sincères condoléances aux familles des victimes, ainsi qu’aux Gouvernements italien et congolais. Il exprime en outre sa pleine solidarité avec les collègues du PAM et toute l'équipe des Nations Unies dans le pays.
Le Secrétaire général appelle le Gouvernement de la République démocratique du Congo à enquêter rapidement sur ce ciblage odieux d'une mission conjointe des Nations Unies sur le terrain et à traduire en justice les auteurs de cette attaque. Il réaffirme que les Nations Unies continueront d’appuyer le Gouvernement et le peuple congolais dans leurs efforts visant à instaurer la paix et la stabilité dans l’est du pays.
