Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Mali
The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack against a convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) that took place on 15 January 2021 near Tessalit in Kidal region, which resulted in the death of an Egyptian peacekeeper and serious injuries to another.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, as well as to the people and Government of Egypt. He wishes a speedy and full recovery to the injured peacekeeper.
The Secretary-General emphasizes that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute a war crime. The United Nations will spare no efforts in supporting the Malian authorities in identifying and promptly bringing to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack.
The Secretary-General reaffirms the solidarity of the United Nations with the people and Government of Mali.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur le Mali
Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l'attaque perpétrée le 15 Janvier contre un convoi de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la Stabilisation au Mali (MINUSMA) aux environs de Tessalit, dans la région de Kidal, qui a entraîné la mort d’un Casque bleu égyptien et causé des blessures graves à un deuxième.
Le Secrétaire général présente ses plus sincères condoléances à la famille endeuillée ainsi qu’au peuple et au Gouvernement égyptiens. Il souhaite un prompt et complet rétablissement au Casque bleu blessé.
Le Secrétaire général souligne que les attaques contre les Casques bleus des Nations Unies peuvent constituer un crime de guerre. Les Nations Unies ne ménageront aucun effort pour soutenir les autorités maliennes afin d’identifier et traduire rapidement en justice les auteurs de cette attaque odieuse.
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme la solidarité des Nations Unies avec le peuple et le Gouvernement du Mali.
