The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General condemns the assault today against United Nations peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) by Turkish Cypriot security personnel.  The incident, which resulted in injuries to the peacekeepers and damage to United Nations vehicles, took place inside the buffer zone near Pyla/Pile as UN peacekeepers were preventing unauthorized construction work in the area, in accordance with their mandate.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack by armed elements in the morning of 10 July against a United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) patrol on the Sam-Ouandja-Ouadda axis, Haute-Kotto Prefecture in north-eastern Central African Republic, which resulted in the death of one peacekeeper from Rwanda.  MINUSCA immediately opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of this attack.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General takes note of resolution 2690 (2023), by which the Security Council decided to terminate the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) as of 30 June and directed its drawdown by 31 December, following the request of the transitional Government of Mali.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack by an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion followed by direct small arms fire against a patrol of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), seven kilometres from the Mission’s base in Ber, in the Timbuktu region, which resulted in the death of one peacekeeper from Burkina Faso and injury of eight others from the same contingent.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General strongly condemns the recent attack against the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) base, staffed by Ugandan peacekeepers, in Buulo Mareer, Lower Shabelle, Somalia. The Secretary-General conveys his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed as well as to the Government and people of Uganda.  He wishes a speedy and full recovery to the injured.

Following are UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ remarks to the Security Council Meeting on “Effective Multilateralism Through the Defence of the Principles of the United Nations Charter and the 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law”, in New York today: Allow me to start my remarks with a few words on Sudan, where the situation continues to worsen.  Since the start of fighting on 15 April, hundreds of people have been killed and thousands injured.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack against a convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Bandiagara cercle.  The convoy drove over an improvised explosive device, which killed three Senegalese peacekeepers and severely injured five others.
