Activities as Peacebuilding

 

UNMOGIP continues to share and explain its role to various stakeholders from within the region as well as the international community.  Efforts along this line as directed by Head of Mission /Chief Military Observer Maj Gen Jose Eladio Alcain were accomplished in a number of information sharing engagements on UNMOGIP. These activities which were conducted with the aim of creating better awareness on the Mission.

26th Junior Diplomats Course

On 12th December 2018, in connection with the 26th Junior Diplomats Course, a briefing session was conducted at the Foreign Service Academy (FSA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad Pakistan. In attendance were 24 junior-level foreign diplomat students from the following 18 countries:

Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS) UNMO Course

On 12 Feb 2019, Head of Mission /Chief Military Observer Maj Gen Jose Eladio Alcain along with his military staff received 32 student officers of the UN Military Observers Course Class 20 including nine foreign officers from Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Libya, and Sri Lanka. Head of Mission /Chief Military Observer Maj Gen Jose Eladio Alcain shared his experience with the students for their eventual deployment to UN Missions in different parts of the world.

27th Advanced Diplomatic Course

On 6th March 2019 at the Foreign Service Academy, Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, the Deputy Chief Military Observer (DCMO)  Col Paul Anthony R Guerrero represented UNMOGIP in an information briefing with the aim of providing greater awareness of the mission’s mandate.  In attendance were the student participants of the 27th Advanced Diplomatic Course consisting of mid-level career foreign diplomats from the following 15 countries:

German Chief of Defense

A courtesy call to General Eberhard Zorn, Chief of Defense, Germany was made on 6th March 2019 at German Embassy, Islamabad.  The German Defense Advisor and other staff from General Zorn’s delegation were also present at the occasion.

International Diplomats of the German Federal Foreign Office

On 13 March 2019, 27 international diplomats under training with the German Federal Foreign Office, while on a four-day visit to Islamabad for a Regional Network Meeting, visited UNMOGIP headquarters to acquaint themselves with the United Nations Military Observers mission’s role. The delegation represented the following 17 countries:

On 14 March 2019 a meeting was held with Australian Defense Advisor accredited in Islamabad.

Conclusion

The engagement that UNMOGIP continues to pursue under the leadership of the HoM/CMO has enabled the mission to reach out too many stakeholders that has further improved the understanding of the Mission’s Mandate.
