UNMISS rehabilitates the garden area of the Kiir Mayardit Women’s Hospital in Rumbek for Int. Peacekeepers Day

On the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, the UNMISS, rehabilitated the garden area of the Kiir Mayardit Women’s Hospital, in Rumbek.

“The UNMISS Rumbek field office voluntarily decided to clean the hospital grounds, donate cleaning supplies, and plant trees to honour the fallen heroes and heroines of the UN in a very special way. What we have done today, especially the planting trees, will have an everlasting mark on the lives of citizens of Rumbek,” said Imad Audeh, a field officer for the mission.

The Western Lakes Minister of Health, Dr. Victoria Anip Majur, applauded the UNMISS for marking the day with an humanitarian effort.

“I am very delighted and moved by how peacekeepers in Rumbek chose to commemorate the lives of their fallen colleagues. Instead of eating and drinking, they (UNMISS) decided to do some kind of humanitarian work for the hospital,” Anip acclaimed.

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed yearly on the 29th of May. It is a tribute to people who serve or have served in UN peacekeeping operations. Peacekeepers are recognized on this day for their high levels of professionalism, dedication and courage.
