UNMISS Force Commander visits Malakal and Bentiu

The UNMISS Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Frank Mushyo Kamanzi, payed a courtesy call on sector north, first, the mission’s base in Malakal.  During his interactions with the troops the Force Commander commended the peacekeeping forces for their professionalism and dedication to the mission’s efforts in South Sudan.  He instilled in them, that an essential part of our peacekeeping endeavor is the protection of civilians, and that it is one of the main of priorities of the mission.

 

The Force Commander then visited the PoC site in Bentiu where he met peacekeepers from Mongolia and Ghana.  The troops in Bentiu briefed the commander on the current security situation and the operational challenges faced within the area of responsibility.

 

The visit to Sector North was the first by the new UNMISS Force Commander. Upon his arrival in the country he immediately understood the need to engage the vast area of responsibility that is now under his command in order to have a clear understanding of the complex dynamics of the nation, the mission’s capacity, and the way forward.
