Today, the Language Commissioner of Kosovo, Slaviša Mladenović, and the Ombudsperson of Kosovo, Naim Qelaj, held a coordination meeting as part of a UNMIK-funded and IOM-implemented project that aims to strengthen interinstitutional cooperation for the promotion and the protection of language rights in Kosovo.
The Language Commissioner and the Ombudsperson discussed the key element of their cooperation roadmap and identified several joint activities in support of language rights for all communities in Kosovo.
In the upcoming period, as a part of the same project, UNMIK and IOM will also directly support the work of the Office of the Language Commissioner by organizing a language learning camp, supporting municipalities in providing interpretating service into Roma, and facilitating the establishment of a Civil Society Forum on language rights.
The enhancement of the respect for language rights for all communities remains a crucial priority in UNMIK’s trust-building efforts.
