The Secretary-General condemns the killing of six Malawian and one Tanzanian peacekeepers of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Beni territory, North Kivu. The peacekeepers were killed during joint operations carried out by MONUSCO and the Forces armées de la République démocratique du Congo (FARDC) against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). Initial reports indicate that ten additional peacekeepers were wounded, and another one is missing. Several FARDC soldiers and an unknown number of ADF fighters were also reportedly killed or wounded during the operations.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the families of the killed peacekeepers and the Governments and people of the Republic of Malawi and the United Republic of Tanzania. He wishes a prompt recovery to the wounded and conveys his strong support to the Malawian and Tanzanian contingents, which continue to operate in an exceptionally difficult environment to protect local populations against the attacks of the ADF and other armed groups.
The Secretary-General calls on all armed groups to stop their destabilizing activities, which continue to add to the suffering of the population and complicate the response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak. He calls on them to disarm immediately.
The Secretary-General encourages the Congolese authorities to continue taking the necessary measures to apprehend and bring to justice the perpetrators of attacks against civilians, national security forces and peacekeepers in the DRC.

Le Secrétaire général condamne l'assassinat de six Casques bleus malawites et un Casque bleu tanzanien de la Mission de l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en République démocratique du Congo (MONUSCO), dans le territoire de Beni au Nord-Kivu. Les Casques bleus ont été tués au cours d'opérations conjointes menées par la MONUSCO et les Forces armées de la République démocratique du Congo (FARDC) contre les Forces démocratiques alliées (ADF). Les rapports initiaux indiquent que dix autres Casques bleus ont été blessés et qu’un autre est porté disparu. Plusieurs soldats des FARDC et un nombre indéterminé de combattants des ADF auraient également été tués ou blessés au cours des opérations.
Le Secrétaire général exprime sa profonde sympathie et ses sincères condoléances aux familles des Casques bleus tués ainsi qu'aux gouvernements et au peuple de la République du Malawi et de la République-Unie de Tanzanie. Il souhaite un prompt rétablissement aux blessés et exprime son soutien résolu aux contingents malawite et tanzanien, qui continuent d'opérer dans un environnement exceptionnellement difficile pour protéger les populations locales contre les attaques des ADF et d'autres groupes armés.
Le Secrétaire général appelle tous les groupes armés à cesser leurs activités déstabilisatrices, qui continuent d’ajouter à la souffrance des populations et compliquent la réponse à l’épidémie d’Ebola. Il les appelle à désarmer immédiatement.
Le Secrétaire général encourage les autorités congolaises à continuer à prendre les mesures nécessaires pour appréhender et traduire en justice les auteurs d'attaques contre les civils, les forces de sécurité nationales et les Casques bleus en RDC.
