Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the formation of an inclusive government in the Central African Republic [scroll down for French version]

The Secretary-General welcomes the establishment of a government in the Central African Republic (CAR) in line with the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation signed in Bangui on 6 February.

The Secretary-General commends the leadership role of the African Union in particular in the successful conclusion of the consultations that were held in Addis Ababa from 18 to 20 March, with United Nations support on CAR.

The Secretary-General urges all signatories of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation to adhere to its agreed principles, especially the rejection of violence and respect for human rights and human dignity. He further urges all signatories of the peace agreement to expedite its implementation.

The Secretary-General reiterates the commitment of the United Nations to assisting the Central African Republic and calls on all partners to continue to support the people and Government of the Central African Republic in their efforts to secure lasting peace in their country.

Le Secrétaire général se félicite de la mise en place d'un gouvernement inclusif en République centrafricaine le 22 mars, conformément à l'Accord Politique pour la Paix et la Réconciliation signé à Bangui le 6 février.

Le Secrétaire général se félicite du rôle de premier plan joué par l'Union Africaine dans le cadre de l'Initiative Africaine pour la paix et la réconciliation en République centrafricaine, notamment la conclusion avec succès des consultations qui se sont tenues à Addis Ababa du 18 au 20 mars, avec l’appui des Nations Unies.

Le Secrétaire général exhorte tous les signataires de l'Accord Politique pour la Paix et la Réconciliation à adhérer aux principes convenus, notamment le rejet de la violence et le respect des droits de l'homme et de la dignité humaine.

Il exhorte en outre tous les signataires de l'Accord de Paix à en accélérer la mise en œuvre. Le Secrétaire général réitère l'engagement continu des Nations Unies d'aider la République centrafricaine et appelle tous les partenaires à continuer d'appuyer le peuple et le gouvernement de la République centrafricaine dans leurs efforts en vue d'instaurer une paix durable dans leur pays.
