The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack by alleged Return, Reclamation and Rehabilitation (3R) armed elements on a United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) convoy in Gedze, Nana-Mambere prefecture in the northwest of the country. A peacekeeper from Rwanda was killed and two others were wounded.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the family of the victim as well as to the people and Government of Rwanda. He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Secretary-General recalls that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. He calls on the Central African Republic authorities to spare no effort in identifying the perpetrators of this attack so that they can be brought to justice swiftly.
The Secretary-General reaffirms that the United Nations will continue to support national efforts to advance peace and stability in the Central African Republic, working closely with the country’s international partners.

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l'attaque aujourd’hui par des éléments présumés du groupe armé Retour, Réclamation et Réhabilitation (3R) d’un convoi de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en République centrafricaine (MINUSCA), à Gedze, dans la préfecture de la Nana-Mambéré au nord-ouest du pays. Un Casque bleu du Rwanda a été tué et deux autres blessés.
Le Secrétaire général présente ses plus sincères condoléances à la famille de la victime, ainsi qu'au peuple et Gouvernement du Rwanda. Il souhaite un prompt rétablissement aux blessés.
Le Secrétaire général rappelle que les attaques contre les forces de maintien de la paix des Nations Unies peuvent constituer un crime de guerre en vertu du droit international. Il appelle les autorités de la République centrafricaine à ne ménager aucun effort pour identifier les auteurs de cette attaque afin qu’ils puissent être amenés devant la justice aussi vite que possible.
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme que les Nations Unies vont continuer à soutenir les efforts nationaux pour faire avancer la paix et la stabilité en République centrafricaine, en étroite collaboration avec les partenaires internationaux du pays.
