Play the "big boots" of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus
When Lieutenant Colonel Jean Heric took command of what is known as Sector 4 of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus, UNFICYP, he realized he had "a big shoe to fill".
He soon learned that there were multiple layers involved in carrying out peacekeeping work in such a "broad international environment". But the Slovakian with the highest rank in the force did not start his career, with the goal of ending up leading a group of blue helmets of the United Nations. As a younger man, he was more interested in playing volleyball, he told Liz Scavidi of UN News.
