New York – 09 October 2025 – The Elsie Initiative Fund for Uniformed Women in Peace Operations (EIF) today launched its Fourth Programming Round at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) Headquarters, providing a new opportunity for Member States and UN entities to implement gender-responsive approaches to peacekeeping.

New York, 8 October 2025 – The United Nations Department of Peace Operations has announced that Olukemi Ibikunle, a corrections officer from Nigeria serving with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), has won the third United Nations Trailblazer Award for Women Justice and Corrections Officers.

New York, 29 September 2025 — The Elsie Initiative Fund (EIF) has announced funding for a two-year pilot project with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to improve conditions for uniformed women peacekeepers deployed to remote areas.

The bilingual, as delivered   Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,   Moments ago, I laid a wreath to honour Peacekeepers.   Four thousand four hundred of our precious blue helmets have lost their lives since United Nations peacekeeping was established – seventy-seven years ago today.    In their memory I would like to ask all present in this room to observe a moment of silence.   [PAUSE for silence]   Thank you.

NEW YORK, 27 May — The United Nations has announced the 2024 recipients of the Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award and the Woman Police Officer of the Year Award. Squadron Leader Sharon Mwinsote Syme of Ghana will receive the Military Gender Advocate Award and Chief Superintendent Zainab Gbla of Sierra Leone will receive the Woman Police Officer of the Year Award during a ceremony marking the International Day of UN Peacekeepers on 29 May. The awards will be presented at United Nations Headquarters in New York by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

NEW YORK, 27 May — The United Nations Headquarters will observe the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on Thursday, 29 May. In 1948, the historic decision was made to deploy military observers to the Middle East to supervise the implementation of Israel-Arab Armistice Agreements, in what became the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization.

The United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025 Berlin concluded today. More than 130 Member States and international partners – over a thousand participants in total - came together to reaffirm their support for UN peacekeeping and to announce concrete pledges aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and adaptability of peace operations in the face of evolving global challenges.
