On 17 December, MINURSO celebrated Bhutan National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.

Bhutan contributes women and men to UN peacekeeping operations all over the world including to MINUSMA , UNMIL, UNMISS , MINUSMA , UNAMID, UNDOF, UNISFA , MINUSTAH, MONUSCO and to MINURSO.
The white colour of the dragon in Bhutan's flag represents purity, the yellow represents the Kingdom of Bhutan's yellow Kabney, the orange represents the Buddhist tradition and the jewels represent Bhutan's wealth and security.
