Welcome to the United Nations

On 17 December, MINURSO celebrated Bhutan National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.

The Day commemorates the coronation of the first Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) of modern Bhutan. It is Bhutan's most significant national holiday widely celebrated throughout the country..

Bhutan has always worked constructively with other member states to achieve the noble objectives of the United Nations since its membership in 1971.

Bhutan contributes women and men to UN peacekeeping operations all over the world including to MINUSMA , UNMIL, UNMISS , MINUSMA , UNAMID, UNDOF, UNISFA , MINUSTAH, MONUSCO and to MINURSO.

The white colour of the dragon in Bhutan's flag represents purity, the yellow represents the Kingdom of Bhutan's yellow Kabney, the orange represents the Buddhist tradition and the jewels represent Bhutan's wealth and security.
