Welcome to the United Nations

MINURSO PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

On 04 July, MINURSO celebrated United States of America’s National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag. The day commemorates the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on 04 July in 1776, establishing the United States of America.

The United States is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the largest financial contributor to UN peacekeeping over the past 75 years. It is also one of the contributing countries of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide including MINURSO where the FCOS is from US.

The US flag's 13 red and white stripes represent the 13 original colonies. Its 50 white stars on a blue background represent the 50 states. Each of the colors on the flag has a meaning: Red: valor and bravery. White: purity and innocence.
