On 12 June, MINURSO celebrated Russia’s National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag. On this day, in 1991, the Russian parliament formally the Declaration of Russian State Sovereignty. The holiday was officially established in 1992.
The Russian Federation is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide, including with MINURSO.
Russia’s flag consists of three horizontal stripes, one white, one blue and one red.
