Today, 04 April 2023, MINURSO celebrated the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
The SRSG and Head of the Mission, Alexander Ivanko, read the message of the Secretary-General urging in particular “Member States to ratify and fully implement the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, the Convention on Cluster Munitions and the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons”.
The SRSG seized the occasion to commend the important work of the UNMAS team in MINURSO. Additionally, during the event, MINURSO personnel were briefed on the various activities of UNMAS and were invited to participate in a series of quizzes aimed at raising awareness of the dangers posed by mines and explosive remnants of war.
