The hope — and resolve — following the Second World War to move beyond global conflict to global cooperation.
Today, our organization is being tested like never before.
But the United Nations was made for moments like this.
Now, more than ever, we need to bring to life the values and principles of the UN Charter in every corner of the world.
By giving peace a chance and ending conflicts that jeopardize lives, futures and global progress.
By working to end extreme poverty, reduce inequalities, and rescue the Sustainable Development Goals.
By safeguarding our planet, including by breaking our addiction to fossil fuels and kickstarting the renewable energy revolution.
And by finally balancing the scales of opportunity and freedom for women and girls and ensure human rights for all.
As we mark UN Day, let us renew our hope and conviction in what humanity can achieve when we work as one, in global solidarity.

L’Organisation des Nations Unies est née d’un espoir.
L’espoir, et la volonté, après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, de passer d’un conflit mondial à la coopération mondiale.
Aujourd’hui, notre organisation est mise à l’épreuve comme jamais auparavant.
Mais c’est précisément pour de telles circonstances qu’elle a été créée.
Plus que jamais, nous devons faire vivre les valeurs et les principes de la Charte des Nations Unies partout dans le monde.
En donnant une chance à la paix et en mettant fin aux conflits qui mettent en péril des vies, hasardent l’avenir et compromettent le progrès mondial.
En travaillant pour mettre fin à l’extrême pauvreté, réduire les inégalités et sauver les objectifs de développement durable.
En protégeant notre planète, notamment en nous sevrant des combustibles fossiles et en amorçant une révolution des énergies renouvelables.
Enfin, en rééquilibrant la balance en faveur des femmes et des filles en matière d’égalité des chances et de liberté, et en garantissant les droits humains pour tous et pour toutes.
En cette Journée des Nations Unies, redisons notre espoir ainsi que notre conviction que l’humanité peut accomplir de grandes choses lorsqu’elle travaille dans un esprit de collaboration et de solidarité mondiale.

الأمم المتحدة هي وليدة الأمل. الأمل الذي بُعث في أعقاب الحرب العالمية الثانية، والعزم الذي عزّزه، من أجل تجاوز التناحر العالمي والعبور إلى بر التعاون العالمي. واليوم، تمر منظمتنا باختبار لم تواجه مثله من قبل. لكن الأمم المتحدة وُلدت من أجل لحظات كهذه. إننا نحتاج الآن، أكثر من أي وقت مضى، إلى إحياء قِيم ميثاق الأمم المتحدة ومبادئه في كل ركن من أركان المعمورة. بأن نعطي السلام فرصةً وننهي النزاعات التي تعرّض أرواح الناس ومستقبلهم للخطر وتهدد التقدّم العالمي. بأن نعمل من أجل القضاء على الفقر المدقع والتقليل من أوجه اللامساواة وإنقاذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة. بأن نحمي كوكبنا، بما في ذلك عن طريق التخلص من إدماننا للوقود الأحفوري وإطلاق ثورة الطاقة المتجددة. وبأن نعيد التوازن أخيراً إلى ميزان الفرص والحريات لصالح النساء والفتيات ونضمن حقوق الإنسان للجميع. دعونا، في احتفالنا هذا بيوم الأمم المتحدة، نجدّد أملنا وقناعتنا بما يمكن للبشرية أن تحقّقه عندما نعمل جميعا كيدٍ واحدة بروح من التضامن العالمي.
