Jordan joins the ranks of Police Contributing Countries to UNFICYP

On 3 July 2019, the Jordanian flag was raised at UNFICYP headquarters in Nicosia, Cyprus, by Mutaz Hayajneh, the first United Nations Police (UNPOL) officer representing his country in the Mission.

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNFICYP Elizabeth Spehar; the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Cyprus Sharari El-Bakhit El-Fayez, as well as the First Secretary Mr Saif Al-Adaileh attended the ceremony, along with UNFICYP personnel.

Since 1992, Jordan has provided military and police officers, including female peacekeepers, to seven peace operations. UNFICYP is the eighth mission to now count Jordan among its Troop- and Police Contributing Countries. Two additional officers from Jordan are expected to join the Mission's Police component shortly.
