Finnish support to public schools, benefitting 3,000 pupils

As children return to school in Lebanon after prolonged COVID-19 restrictions, UNIFIL peacekeepers from Finland recently implemented support projects in south Lebanon benefiting about 3,000 pupils of 10 public schools.

Working in coordination with UNIFIL civil affairs and local authorities of the Jabal Amel Union of Municipalities, the Finnish peacekeepers carried out the donations in two phases: in August and November.

As requested by the schools, the support included essential learning materials for children, teaching materials for teachers and office supplies for other school staff.

Since their first deployment to UNIFIL in 1982, Finnish peacekeepers have been supporting local communities. Currently, UNIFIL’s approximately 200 Finnish peacekeepers are among more than 10,300 troops from 46 countries.
