STATEMENT BY CAROLINE ZIADEH, SPECIAL REREPRESENTATIVE OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL SECURITY COUNCIL BRIEFING ON UNMIK New York 08 FEBRUARY 2024   Let me start by thanking you, Madam President, for this opportunity to brief the Security Council on the latest unfolding developments in Kosovo.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the violence that occurred over the weekend in the Abyei Administrative Area, which resulted in the tragic death of numerous civilians and attacks on the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) during which two peacekeepers lost their life in the line of duty.  The Secretary-General conveys his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Ghana and Pakistan, and to the families of the deceased civilians.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres: The Secretary-General condemns the killing on 15 January of one Cameroonian peacekeeper from the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the wounding of five others, including two seriously, by an explosive in Mbindali, in Ouham-Pendé Prefecture, north-west of Paoua.
