TWO PORTUGUESE PEACEKEEPERS KILLED IN HELICOPTER CRASH

Two Portuguese Peacekeepers were killed today at 5.30 p.m. local time in a helicopter crash near Alas, 55 southwest of Dili in Same district. Three other Portuguese soldiers travelling in the helicopter, an Alouette III, survived.

The three survivors, the pilot, a mechanic and a soldier, sustained slight injuries and were flown to Dili early in the evening. They were immediately taken to the United Nations Military Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash is not yet known and an investigation into the tragedy has been launched.
