EAST TIMORESE TO PARTICIPATE IN PUBLIC FINANCE COURSE

Commencing Monday, 12 February, 40 East Timorese Transitional Administration (ETTA) staff will be participating in a four-week introduction course in public finance. The course, which will be formally opened by the Transitional Administrator, Sergio Vieira de Mello, is aimed at building staff’s understanding of the importance for East Timor of establishing an efficient and rigorous financial framework, as well as their understanding of specific budget concepts and processes. The course will cover issues such as ETTA’s legislative and executive framework and the different roles of agencies, the Cabinet, National Council and international organizations like the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the bilateral donors. The course will be conducted by a team of local and international staff from the Budget Preparation Department of the Central Fiscal Authority.
