TEACHER RECRUITMENT

The districts of East Timor have finalized the selection of 3,000 primary school teachers and decided on the allocation. The selections were based on the test results and the allocations based on student numbers per district.

The results are expected to be posted on notice boards in the different sub-district at the end of this week.

Meanwhile, the district education officers are currently finalizing teacher allocations for secondary schools. University students in the various subject disciplines who have completed six or more semesters, will be chosen.

The lists are expected to be completed by the end of July.

University students accepted for training to become secondary school teachers will attend a basic training course of about five to six weeks before they start teaching.

The national test for the recruitment of qualified primary school teachers took place on 29 May. Some 5,500 people took the test.

There are currently 173,000 students enrolled at present.

The school year starts in October.
