A written test for the 2nd phase of the recruitment of 150 civilian prison personnel

On 8 November 2019, the aptitude test for the second phase of the recruitment of 150 civilian prison staff was conducted in the sixteen regions of the Central African Republic. Out of the 1941 candidates who applied (of which 408 women), only 1723, including 351 women, turned up for the exercise translating in 88.8% participation. The gender participation rate was 86% for the women and 89.5% for the men. The physical condition tests took place on 9 and 10 November 2019 in all the examination centres across the country. The Civil Affairs Section, the United Nations Police (UNPOL) and Force supported the exercise through the supervision of the candidates, security of the examination centres and medical services to candidates.

This 2nd selection phase will complete the recruitment process of the 300 civilian prison officers, being part of the implementation of the national demilitarization strategy of the Central African Republic Prison Service. The uniqueness of this second phase is the enhanced recruitment campaign to increase the gender/regional/religion and minority group representation, by expanding the number of examination centres in remote areas of the country. In addition, MINUSCA Justice and Correction Section sensitized the Muslim minority in the PK5 community in Bangui, to encourage young women and men aged between 18 and 30 to apply.

Compared to the previous recruitment process of 2018, where there were only 5 centres targeting three prefectures out of 16, in 2019 it increased to 15 centres reaching out to all prefectures. Successful candidates will undergo an oral interview, a medical examination and a vetting process before the final selection to mark the end of the recruitment of the 150 civilian prison personnel with the support of MINUSCA, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Women.
