Welcome to the United Nations

University students from around the world see UNIFIL’s work first-hand

UNIFIL today hosted a group of about 50 university students from around the world in its headquarters in Naqoura and at a UN position along the Blue Line in a visit organized by Lebanon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants.

While in Naqoura, the visitors learned about the important work UNIFIL peacekeepers from 43 countries are doing – in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces – in maintaining peace and stability in south Lebanon. UNIFIL’s Acting Head of Mission Imran Riza was among several officials who briefed the students on various aspects of UNIFIL’s work since 1978.

Later in the day, the students, aged between 19 and 25 years, toured a UNIFIL position along the Blue Line, where UNIFIL officials showed the Mission’s work on the ground.

The visit was part of an intensive two-week programme, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, which included visits to refugee camps and various Government branches.

Between their core peacekeeping duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers regularly carry out various small-scale activities with the Government and the host communities in order to maintain and enhance their excellent relations, which is key to maintaining the calm in their area of operations.
