UNIFIL helps hospitals in south Lebanon in the fight against COVID-19

In November and December 2020, UNIFIL’s Civil Affairs Office and Italian peacekeepers coordinated training sessions to share best practices on COVID-19 for frontline health workers in south Lebanon.

During the sessions, Italian medical experts from Celio Military Hospital, San Martino Hospital, and the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases shared their experiences and what they learned from the pandemic. The training was developed based on a request from the Head of the Public Health Department of the Caza of Bint Jbeil, in coordination with the World Health Organization, and was delivered through an online webinar.

Staff from Tibnin and Bint Jbeil Public Hospitals had the opportunity to hear from medical workers who worked on one of the first front lines of the pandemic. The goal of the training was to help build their capacity in the areas of screening, quarantine practices, disinfection procedures, treatment, and more. Following the sessions, staff put their new knowledge to work to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in their communities.
