Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations visits UNFICYP

From 24-26 July 2019, the Under-Secretary General (USG) for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, visited the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

During his visit, Mr. Lacroix met with the leaders of the two communities on the island as well as civil society and community representatives. He also called on The Garage in Deryneia/Derinya, a bi-communal space supported by UNFICYP, where people from both communities gather for cultural and other events.

USG Lacroix held a Town Hall meeting with the mission’s personnel where he commended them for their service to the cause of sustainable peace in Cyprus. “All of you gathered here – military, civilian and police – work every day to implement the mission’s mandate and contribute to peace and security on the island. We are grateful for your dedication,” he stated.

Additionally, Mr. Lacroix travelled to various key locations where UNFICYP is deployed along the Buffer Zone.
