The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti on 12 April. The meeting took place ahead of the United Nations Security Council session on Kosovo scheduled for 13 April.
SRSG Tanin congratulated Prime Minister Kurti on his appointment and the smooth transition of power. He welcomed the Prime Minister’s immediate prioritisation of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, pledging the continued assistance of the United Nations in addressing this challenge.
SRSG Tanin and Prime Minister Kurti also touched upon other issues of mutual concern, discussing avenues of support towards the government agenda to strengthen the rule of law, tackle corruption and improve inter-community relations.
Finally, they exchanged views on the prospects towards normalization of relations between Pristina and Belgrade in the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue.
