Spanish support to boost hospital capabilities in Meiss ej Jebel

UNIFIL Spanish Peacekeepers continued with the UN Mission’s ongoing efforts to assist the host population in the common fight against COVID-19 pandemic by donating several medical equipment and sanitary supplies to the Meiss ej Jebel public hospital in south-eastern Lebanon.

The donation for the containment of the virus yesterday, in support to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), included protective goggles, suits, protective waterproof aprons, disposable gowns, surgical gloves (various sizes), various masks, shoe covers for hospital use and biohazard waste bags.

The Spanish support to the communities falling under UNIFIL Nepalese Battalion’s responsibility seeks to improve capabilities and enhance efforts to prevent the spread of the highly infectious virus.

UNIFIL Sector East Commander Brig. Gen. Javier Antonio Miragaya Prieto handed over the items to the hospital director, Dr. Hussein Ali Yassin, amidst a ceremony attended by local leaders and representatives from MoPH and the Lebanese Army.

Dr. Yassin thanked UNIFIL for the support and lauded the ongoing mutual cooperation between UN peacekeepers and the host population.
