MINUSCA condemns an attack against its peacekeepers near Zémio in Haut-Mbomou [1]
Bangui, 17 June 2025 – The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) strongly condemns the attack carried out by armed elements against one of its Force patrols on Saturday, 14 June 2025, near Zémio, in the Haut-Mbomou prefecture.
The patrol, which was carrying out a mission to protect civilians, came under heavy fire. Two Nepalese peacekeepers were wounded in the attack and evacuated to Bria. Their condition is stable
MINUSCA immediately reinforced its presence in the area to ensure the safety of the civilian population and its personnel.
MINUSCA recalls that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. It calls on the Central African authorities to make every effort to identify those responsible for these acts so that they can be swiftly brought to justice.
MINUSCA reaffirms its commitment to continue implementing its mandate in support of peace and lasting stability in the Central African Republic.
