The laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a health clinic for the Congolese National Police (PNC) in Tanganyika took place on Wednesday July 1, 2020 in Kalemie, Tanganyika province.
It is Mr. Houmed Ibrahim Mohamed, the deputy Chief of MONUSCO Police Sector (UNPOL) in charge of Operations, representing the Head of MONUSCO Kalemie office as well as the UNPOL Sector Chief, who laid the first stone for this Quick Impact Project (QIP) costing forty thousand nine hundred and forty-two (US $ 48,942).
The Ministers for Interior and Security, Infrastructure and Health as well as PNC Provincial Commissioner, UNPOL QIPS Focal Point, NGO APDEV’s partners and countless guests attended the ceremony.
The objective of this project is to provide the police with an adequate framework for medical care, to facilitate medical care for their families and to strengthen the operational capacity of the Tanganyika Provincial Police by improving, with the help of this medical clinic, the socio-professional conditions of the police personnel.
"The implementation of this MONUSCO-funded quick impact project through the United Nations Police Section (UNPOL) will not only contribute to the improvement of the health and working conditions of the Congolese National Police (PNC) personnel and their families, but also for the population of the city of Kalemie ", underscored, Mr. Jean Kilongozi, leader of the NGO APDEV (Action citoyenne pour la Paix et le Developpement/Citizen’s Action for Peace and Development), implementing partner of the project.
This medical clinic will include several services: a laboratory, an operating room, an infirmary, a maternity ward and a doctor's office and its construction is expected to take three months. The project also consists of equipping the clinic with medical equipment, IT, office automation and furniture.
PNC provincial commissioner, Jean YAV MUKAYA, thanked the UN Mission for its support to the PNC, in particular "through the rehabilitation and strengthening of operational capacities, including the donation of office containers and the installation of lampposts in some sub-police stations of our province.’’
Selon lui, « cet énième acquis orienté vers la santé des policiers et de leur famille contribuera beaucoup à l’épanouissement » des policiers.
According to him, "this umpteenth police-oriented health achievement, including their families will contribute a lot to the well-being" of the police personnel.
