MINURSO’S PEACEKEEPERS: NATIONAL DAY OF MEXICO

On 16 September, MINURSO observed Mexico’s national day by raising the Mexican flag at the Mission HQ in Laayoune.

Mexico, an original signatory to the UN Charter, has only recently become a troop contributing country to UN peacekeeping operations. Currently, 17 military and police officers are deployed in UN peacekeeping operations including four UNMOs with MINURSO.

The Mexican flag colors are green, white, and red with the national coat of arms in the center of the white stripe. While the meaning of the colors has changed over time, these three colors were adopted by Mexico following independence from Spain on 16 September 1810.

Felicidades Mexico!
