On 20 August, MINURSO celebrated the National Day of Hungary by raising its national flag at the Mission HQ in Laayoune.
On this day, Hungarians celebrate the founding of the Hungarian state dating back to the year 1000 AD.
In Hungary, ceremonies and festivities are held nationwide to mark this occasion, including flag hoisting, air and water parades, folk arts and street music.
In 1995, Hungary deployed its first uniformed contingent to UNFICYP in Cyprus. As of 30 June 2024, 37 women and men from Hungary serve in the UN field operations, including seven in MINURSO.
The colors of the national flag represent strength (red), hope (green), and national pride and allegiance (white).
Boldog nemzeti ünnepet!
