The Secretary-General condemns the killing of two peacekeepers of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) on 25 July in Bangassou. This incident brings to nine the number of peacekeepers killed in service in Bangassou since the beginning of the year.
The Secretary-General offers his condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families and to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco. He urges the Central African authorities to swiftly investigate this and all previous killings without delay and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Secretary-General is deeply concerned at the fighting in the south-east of the Central African Republic, heightened inter-ethnic tensions and efforts by spoilers to derail the stabilization process in the country. If allowed to continue, the prevailing situation risks undermining the hard-won gains achieved towards lasting peace.
The Secretary-General calls on all parties to cease violence and to take action to avoid a further deterioration of the fragile security situation in the country.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur la République centrafricaine
Le Secrétaire général condamne la mort de deux casques bleus de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la Stabilisation en République centrafricaine (MINUSCA) le 25 juillet à Bangassou. Cet incident porte à neuf le nombre de casques bleus tués à Bangassou depuis le début de l’année.
Le Secrétaire général présente ses condoléances aux familles endeuillées et au gouvernement du Royaume du Maroc. Il demande aux autorités centrafricaines d’enquêter rapidement et sans délai sur cette attaque et sur toutes les précédentes et de traduire les auteurs en justice.
Le Secrétaire général est profondément préoccupé par la poursuite des combats au sud-est de la République centrafricaine, les tensions inter-ethniques accrues et les efforts des fauteurs de troubles pour miner le processus de stabilisation du pays. Si elle se poursuit, la situation qui prévaut risque de mettre en péril les gains durement acquis en vue d’une paix durable.
Le Secrétaire général appelle toutes les parties à mettre un terme à la violence et à prendre des mesures afin de prévenir une nouvelle détérioration de la situation sécuritaire fragile du pays.
