Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the Central African Republic [scroll down for French]

The Secretary-General condemns the killing on 23 July by suspected anti-Balaka militias of a peacekeeper of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in Bangassou, south east of the country. Three others were injured.
 
The Secretary-General offers his condolences to the bereaved family and to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco. He also wishes speedy recovery to those injured.
 
The Secretary-General is appalled by attacks against United Nations peacekeepers and urges the Central African authorities to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
 
The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the continued fighting in the south east of the Central African Republic and calls on all parties to cease violence. He reiterates his support for the efforts by MINUSCA to protect civilians and assist in the stabilisation of the security situation in the Central African Republic.

Le Secrétaire général condamne la mort le 23 juillet d’un casque bleu de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la Stabilisation en République centrafricaine dans une attaque perpétrée par des membres présumés de milices anti-Balaka à Bangassou, au sud-est du pays. Trois autres casques bleus ont été blessés.
 
Le Secrétaire général présente ses condoléances à la famille endeuillée et au gouvernement du Royaume du Maroc. Il souhaite également un prompt rétablissement aux blessés.
 
Le Secrétaire général est consterné par les attaques contre les casques bleus des Nations Unies et exhorte les autorités centrafricaines à enquêter sur l’incident et à traduire les coupables en justice.
 
Le Secrétaire général est profondément préoccupé par les combats qui perdurent dans le sud-est de la République centrafricaine et appelle toutes les parties à mettre fin à la violence. Il réitère son soutien aux efforts de la MINUSCA pour protéger les civils et aider à la stabilisation de la sécurité dans le pays.
